Nevada awards attorney for RRG contribution

Vicky Beckett 22/09/2011

A member of the NRRA general counsel was awarded for his influential role in defending RRGs by the Nevada Captive Insurance Association.

Robert Myers (pictured), partner at Morris, Manning and Martin, received the Alice A. Molasky-Arman award at the association’s annual conference.

The award recognises the work he has done to defend federal control of risk retention groups (RRGs) when licensed in a single state under the Liability Risk Retention Act 1986.

It was also an appreciation of Myers’ work in establishing Nevada as a domicile in RRGs.

Alice Arman, who the award is named after, the former Nevada commissioner of insurance, said: “Skip Myers has been recognised as one of the world’s leading insurance attorneys.

“With Skip’s endorsement on behalf of the National Risk Retention Association (NRRA) for Nevada as a viable RRG domicile, this State’s reputation soared.”

She praised Myers and the NRRA for campaigning to enact the Risk Retention Modernization Act, 2011, now before congress.

As Myers could not attend, Sanford Elsass, vice-chairman of NRRA and a director of NCIA received it and will present it to Myers at the NRRA conference in Washington DC next month.

Cell Company Guide

WELCOME TO THE Captive Review Cell Company Handbook 2009 – the second edition of our global directory of cell company jurisdictions. Since we last published this directory, the general attitude toward cell companies seems to have shifted up a gear. Whereas single-parent companies have long ruled the captive roost, a slight uptick in the formation of pure captives at the beginning of this year can’t hide the fact that growth in this market is still sluggish.
