Captive Live USA, Chicago, had over 400 delegates at the educational conference this week.

The free event (that has been going for several years in Europe and the UK) launched in America on September 26-27 with attendees travelling from as far as Luxembourg, the UK and Bermuda to attend.

Technical seminars varied from implementations of the Dodd Frank Act to ‘What to write into your captive,’ with Lois Fuchs, Donna Weber and Ryan Ralston (pictured).

Stephen Cross, CEO of Aon global risk consulting, was the keynote speaker who filled the main theatre on Monday.

Attendees included captive owners, services providers and regulators such as Robert Myers, a member of the NRRA and partner at Morris, Manning and Martin, and Mary Jo Lopez, director of business development for Delaware insurance department.

Shelby Weldon, director of insurance, licensing and authorisations at the Bermuda Monetary Authority, said: “I thought the conference was a first great outing for Captive Review in the US. It has been well attended. I have spoken to a number of potential clients for Bermuda. It has been successful.”

William Montanez, Ace Hardware director of risk management, said: “The conference was a good networking opportunity for me with new faces in the audience that have an interest in captives.”

The two-day event was the first of Captive Review’s annual free conferences in the US.

Cell Company Guide

WELCOME TO THE Captive Review Cell Company Handbook 2009 – the second edition of our global directory of cell company jurisdictions. Since we last published this directory, the general attitude toward cell companies seems to have shifted up a gear. Whereas single-parent companies have long ruled the captive roost, a slight uptick in the formation of pure captives at the beginning of this year can’t hide the fact that growth in this market is still sluggish.
