Guernsey officials visiting Singapore and Hong Kong

Matthew Broomfield 11/10/2011

Guernsey is sending a delegation to Singapore and Hong Kong to raise the profile of its financial industry.

The team will be led by Carla McNulty Bauer, minister for the commerce and employment department, Jarrod Cowley-Grimmond, director of the finance sector development unit of the Guernsey government, Peter Niven, chief executive of Guernsey Finance.

They will meet with politicians, regulators, stock exchange officials and financial services practitioners in the two centres. They will also highlight the fact that earlier this year Guernsey companies were allowed to list on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEx).

Mr Niven said: “We have made huge strides in recent years to raise the profile of Guernsey in the Far East. This work has come to fruition in a variety of ways, including increasing recognition at the political, regulatory and stock exchange levels but also the number of local firms which are now establishing offices in the region.

“These are very positive developments in terms of attracting business flows to the Island but we need to make sure that we capitalise on the opportunities and this visit is central to achieving those aims.”

The delegation will be in Singapore during the week commencing Monday 31 October. The core of the team will then head to Hong Kong.

Cell Company Guide

WELCOME TO THE Captive Review Cell Company Handbook 2009 – the second edition of our global directory of cell company jurisdictions. Since we last published this directory, the general attitude toward cell companies seems to have shifted up a gear. Whereas single-parent companies have long ruled the captive roost, a slight uptick in the formation of pure captives at the beginning of this year can’t hide the fact that growth in this market is still sluggish.
