Marsh pledge to help national disaster risk retention

Marsh has committed itself to the UN Disaster Risk Retention Private Sector Partnership.
 
Marsh has signed a ‘Statement of Commitment’, pledging the company’s support to the United Nations Disaster Risk Retention Private Sector Partnership (UNISDR).
 
The leading insurance broker has also promised to help raise awareness of risk management and contingency planning to build resilient nations for sustainable development.
 
Philippe Auzimour, head of Marsh’s public sector practice in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), said: “Building resilience is a major challenge and we are honoured to share this working agenda with UNISDR. Marsh is committed to bringing our knowledge of risk management to helping improving the resilience of public entities and managing disasters.
 
“We look forward to making a strong contribution towards helping UNISDR save lives and reduce the costs of catastrophic risks.”
 
Over 200m people are affected by disasters annually. In 2010 at least 300,000 people died in major disasters and annual reported disaster losses now regularly exceed $100 bn.
