Arizona insurance director steps down

The Arizonan director of insurance has reached the end of her eight year appointment.
 
Christina Urias was appointed director of the Arizona department of insurance in November, 2003, but her appointed term has come to an end.
 
Stephanie Lefkowski, chief analyst in the captive division of Arizona department of insurance,
said: “These changes should be transparent to my community as I will still be managing day-to-day operations and the additional staff has been a tremendous help to me in responding to our captives’ inquiries.”
 
Urias was previously a partner at the law firm of DeConcini McDonald Yetwin and Lacy (1989-2003) and before becoming an attorney, she also worked as a property and casualty claims adjuster (1973-1985).
 
Urias graduated with a philosophy honours from the University of Arizona as well as the University of Arizona, College of Law.
 
She has clerked for the Arizona Supreme Court and the Arizona Bar Foundation named her as one of the Top 50 Pro Bono Attorneys in Arizona.
 
Director Urias is the President of the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services & Education and has served on the Foundation’s Board of Directors and as Chair of the Foundation's Legal Services Committee for several years.
 
Urias is actively involved in the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) and currently serves as vice-chair of the NAIC western zone.
 
She is also the chair the Solvency Modernization Initiative (SMI) Task Forcen and the NAIC's International Solvency Working Group and the NAFTA Working Group.
