Willis boosts Malta presence

Matthew Broomfield 20/09/2012

Willis Group Holdings has opened a new office in Malta after reporting “substantial” growth in the past year.

Nigel Goodlad, managing director of Willis Management (Malta), said Willis is now even better positioned to take its insurance company management business forward in an attractive EU location.

“Malta has a number of unique characteristics that make it an interesting location for our clients. The combination of the ability to write risk across the European Economic Area (EEA), an accessible regulator and a pleasant place to do business makes for an attractive business proposition,” added Goodlad.

Willis’s presence is proof that Malta is a jurisdiction of repute with solid regulation, said chairman of the Malta Financial Services Authority, professor Joe Bannister. “The presence of Willis assumes great importance because it shows that Malta—now a Member State of the EU—is able to attract large multinationals to the island. The indications are that we are going to continue achieving this despite the economic and financial turbulence.”

Malcolm Cutts-Watson, chairman of the Willis Global Practice, said Malta is an expanding financial services centre with close links to many European financial hubs, enabling European organisations to easily set up their captives there.

Cell Company Guide

WELCOME TO THE Captive Review Cell Company Handbook –our global directory of cell company jurisdictions. Since we last published this directory, the general attitude toward cell companies seems to have shifted up a gear. Whereas single-parent companies have long ruled the captive roost, a slight uptick in the formation of pure captives at the beginning of this year can’t hide the fact that growth in this market is still sluggish.
