DC Insurance Commissioner leaves in a hurry

01/09/2009

Thomas Hampton, the commissioner of the District of Columbia (DC) Department of Insurance, Securities and Banking (DISB) has abruptly left his post, according to announcement by the DISB on 28 August.

Hampton, who has been at DISB since 1988, was appointed head of the agency in May 2006, after the sudden departure of Commissioner Larry Mirel.

Deputy Commissioner Gennet Purcell, who has held the deputy position since December 2008, was named as Hampton’s replacement. The DISB has not yet confirmed whether Hampton chose to step down from the post or was replaced.

Prior to his appointment as commissioner Hampton was the DISB’s deputy commissioner and was responsible, in 2004, for facilitating the merger between the former Department of Insurance and Securities Regulation and the Department of Banking and Financial Institutions to create the DISB.

Prior to joining the DISB, Hampton worked in the insurance industry, with experience of managing captive insurance companies in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands.

Cell Company Guide

WELCOME TO THE Captive Review Cell Company Handbook 2009 – the second edition of our global directory of cell company jurisdictions. Since we last published this directory, the general attitude toward cell companies seems to have shifted up a gear. Whereas single-parent companies have long ruled the captive roost, a slight uptick in the formation of pure captives at the beginning of this year can’t hide the fact that growth in this market is still sluggish.
