Insurance companies should complete QIS5, says Commission

The European Commission has urged insurance and reinsurance companies to participate in Solvency II’s fifth quantitative impact study (QIS5).
 
Michel Barnier, internal market and services commissioner, said the study’s results will help the Commission make a final decision on the amount of capital that insurance and reinsurance companies will be required to hold under Solvency II. “We need reliable, extensive and representative data from the market in order to make the right decisions. I therefore strongly encourage the insurance industry to participate in this exercise.”

FERMA concerned by ‘excessive’ capitalisation

The Federation of European Risk Management Associations (FERMA) has reiterated its concern that ‘excessive levels’ of capitalisation under Solvency II will harm the European insurance industry.

FERMA said it shared the views expressed in a recent report published by the European Insurance Association (CEA) entitled ‘Why excessive capital requirements can harm consumers and the economy’.

Dublin captives ‘primed’ for next stage of Solvency II

The Dublin captive industry is preparing for the next stage of Solvency II by producing a set of calibrations for operating the so-called ‘proportionality principle’ with respect to captives.

Sarah Goddard, CEO of the Dublin International Insurance & Management Association (DIMA) said DIMA’s membership, which includes captives, had demonstrated “huge involvement in the second wave of Level II consultation” for Solvency II.
